AUGMENTED REALITY

WHAT IS AUGMENTED REALITY?

Augmented reality is one of the biggest technology trends right now. Augmented reality provides us with the real-life environment right in front of us. but, before elaborating on this technology, we should be able to make the distinction between augmented reality and virtual reality.

-Augmented reality uses a real-world setting while virtual reality is completely virtual.

-Augmented reality users can control their presence in the real world; Virtual reality users are controlled by the system

-Virtual reality requires a headset device, but Augmented reality can be accessed with a smartphone.

-Augmented reality enhances both the virtual and real-world while virtual reality only enhances a fictional reality

Augmented reality can be defined as a system that incorporates three basic features: a combination of real and virtual worlds, real-time interaction, and accurate three-dimensional registration of virtual and real objects. This experience is seamlessly connected with the physical world such that it is perceived as an immersive aspect of the real environment.

Perhaps the most famous example of augmented reality technology is the game Pokemon Go. In the game, players locate and capture Pokemon characters that pop up in the real world on your sidewalk, in a fountain, even in your own bathroom.

Apart from the games, there are as many uses for augmented reality in our everyday lives as there are Pikachu on the loose in Pokemon GO. Here are just a few examples:

  • - navigation systems use augmented reality to find a route over the live view of the road.
  • -Military pilots see an augmented reality projection of their altitude, speed, and other data on their helmet visor.
  • -Neurosurgeons sometimes use an augmented reality projection of a 3-D brain to aid them in surgeries.
  • -At historical sites like Pompeii in Italy, augmented reality can project views of ancient civilizations over today’s ruins, bringing the past to life.
